Within the framework of the project titled “Empowering Halal Industry to Boost Intra-OIC Trade” being implemented by the Ministry of Trade of Indonesia, a workshop titled “Discovering Opportunities to Access Halal Market of the OIC Member Countries” was conducted on 2 September 2019 in Indonesia, with the participation of the representatives from the relevant ministries, business sectors, and academic institutions of the partner countries, Malaysia, Turkey, Brunei Darussalam, Bangladesh and Pakistan. The workshop provided several recommendations on improving the competitiveness of halal industry to enter OIC halal market. Also a training program was conducted between 3-6 September, 2019 in Indonesia with the participation of the representatives from the partner countries, Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam, Bangladesh and Pakistan. The training aimed for the business operator, particularly the SMEs, to provide better understanding of Halal Assurance System as the first step to obtain halal certification. The general framework of the training consisted of the topics such as Halal regulation in several OIC Market, introduction to Halal Assurance System, general procedure of Halal Certification, criteria of Halal Assurance System, Developing and Implementing Halal Assurance System, and a visit to company which has already gain Halal Assurance Certification and experienced in exports to OIC countries.
