38th Ministerial Session of the COMCEC

The 38th Ministerial Meeting of the COMCEC was held under the auspices of H.E. Recep Tayyip ERDOĞAN, President of the Republic of Türkiye, on 28-29 November with the participation of over 500 delegates, 32 of which were Ministers, from 48 countries that are members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and 25 international organizations.

The Ministerial Meeting commenced on 28 November 2022 with the opening speech of the H.E. Recep Tayyip ERDOĞAN, President of the Republic of Türkiye. Following His Excellency President, respectively, OIC Secretary General Hissein Brahim Taha and the Heads of Delegation of Saudi Arabia, Nigeria and Brunei Darussalam on behalf of the three geographical regions of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation delivered their speeches. In addition, the Chairman of the Islamic Development Bank, Mr. Muhammad Sulaiman Al Jasser and the President of the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey Digital Transformation Office, Dr. Ali Taha KOÇ made a speech at the opening session. The launch of the COMCEC High Level Digital Transformation Program, whose preparatory work was completed at the meeting, was also held.

The theme of this year’s COMCEC Ministerial Exchange of Views Session was determined as “Effective Provision of Social Assistance and Socioeconomic Empowerment in accordance with the Effects of the COVID-19 Pandemic” in order to share experiences and discuss cooperation opportunities among member countries.

In the Ministerial Exchange Session, chaired by H.E. Vice President Mr. Fuat OKTAY, the Ministers stated that in line with the needs arising with the COVID-19 epidemic, increasing the diversity of social solidarity mechanisms in order to increase the effectiveness of social assistance, identifying those in need accurately and quickly, preventing duplication between different programs, Country experiences were shared on issues such as increasing the interoperability of programs, facilitating and making application processes efficient, and what could be done to increase cooperation among Islamic Countries on this issue was discussed.
