39th Meeting of the Follow-up Committee of COMCEC

The 39th Meeting of the COMCEC Follow-up Committee was held in Ankara on 23-24 May 2023. The Members of the Follow-up Committee namely  Türkiye, Saudi Arabia, Palestine, Qatar, Brunei Darussalam, Senegal, Pakistan, Kuwait Indonesia, Nigeria participated in the Meeting. The representatives of the OIC General Secretariat and relevant OIC organizations also attended the Meeting.

Agriculture

The 20th Meeting of the COMCEC Agriculture Working Group was held on May 11th, 2023, in a virtual-only format with the theme of “Ensuring the Sustainability of Agricultural Inputs to Combat Food Insecurity in OIC Member Countries”.

The representatives of 14 Member States, which have notified their focal points for the Agriculture Working Group, attended the Meeting. The meeting was further attended by the IFAD, SESRIC, Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS) and COMCEC Coordination Office (CCO).

Representatives of the Member States and international institutions have shared their experiences and best practice examples about the sustainability of agricultural inputs to combat food insecurity. Participants have also listened to the preliminary findings of the research report which is being prepared specifically on the theme of the Meeting. The final version of the report will be submitted to the 21st Meeting of the Working Group to be held in October, 2023.

Poverty

The 20th Meeting of the COMCEC Poverty Alleviation Working Group (PAWG) was held on May 10th, 2023, in a virtual-only format with the theme of “Effective Vocational Education and Training Strategies to Reduce Youth Unemployment in the OIC Member Countries”.

The representatives of 13 Member States, which have notified their focal points for the Poverty Alleviation Working Group, attended the Meeting. The meeting was further attended by the International Labour Organization (ILO) Office for Türkiye, Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), The Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC) and COMCEC Coordination Office (CCO).

The Representatives of the Member States and International Institutions have shared their experiences to understand how vocational education and training programs can help reduce youth unemployment effectively. Participants also listened to the presentations of the first draft report prepared specifically on the theme of the Meeting.

The 19th Meeting of the COMCEC Financial Cooperation Working Group was held online on May 9, 2023, with the theme of “Enhancing Cooperation between Central Banks with regard to Digital Currencies: Challenges and Prospects for the OIC Member Countries”.

The Meeting has been attended by the representatives of 20 member countries, which have specified their focal points for the Working Group on Financial Cooperation, and the representatives of the Economic and Social Research and Training Centre (SESRIC), Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries (SMIIC), General Assembly of Islamic Banks and Financial Institutions (CIBAFI) and COMCEC Coordination Office (CCO).

Representatives of the Central Banks of the Member States shared with the participants their experiences, successful practices and challenges for enhancing cooperation in terms of Digital Currencies. The participants also heard the first findings of a specially prepared research report on the theme of the Meeting.

The 20th Meeting Of The COMCEC Tourism

The 20th Meeting of the COMCEC Tourism Working Group was held on May 4th, 2023 in a virtual-only format, with the theme of “Promoting Entrepreneurship for Tourism Industry Competitiveness in the OIC Countries.”

The Meeting was attended by the representatives of 15 Member States. Representatives of COMCEC Coordination Office, ICDT (Islamic Centre for Development of Trade) and SESRIC have also attended the Meeting.

The Representatives of the Member States have shared their experiences, achievements and challenges regarding entrepreneurship in their respective countries The participants have deliberated on the aforementioned theme and considered the study “Promoting Entrepreneurship for Tourism Industry Competitiveness in the OIC Countries” commissioned by the COMCEC Coordination Office.

20th Meeting Of The COMCEC Transport And Communications WG

The 20th Meeting of COMCEC Transport and Communications Working Group was held virtually on May 3rd, 2023, with the theme of “Measuring the Environmental Impacts of Transport Infrastructures in OIC Member Countries”.

The representatives of 19 Member States attended the meeting. Furthermore, the representatives of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC), Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), BESENVE Company, and COMCEC Coordination Office (CCO) attended the meeting.

The representatives of the Member States have shared their experiences, achievements, and challenges regarding the environmental impacts of transport infrastructures in their respective countries. Furthermore, they have deliberated global practices concerning how to assess the environmental effects of transport infrastructures and profound success factors and challenges faced in the OIC Member Countries. The meeting has mainly considered the preliminary findings of the Guide titled “Measuring the Environmental Impacts of Transport Infrastructures in OIC Member Countries” which is currently being conducted by the CCO.

20th Meeting Of The COMCEC Trade

The 20th Meeting of the COMCEC Trade Working Group was held online on May 2, 2023 with the theme of “Developing the E-Commerce Capacity of OIC Member Countries”.

The Meeting has been attended by the representatives of 18 member countries and the Islamic Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (ICCIA), Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC), Standing Committee for Scientific and Technological Cooperation of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (COMSTECH), World Trade Organization (WTO), D-8 Secretariat and COMCEC Coordination Office (CCO).

Representatives of Member States and international organisations shared their experiences, successful practices and challenges in E-Commerce and capacity building with the participants. The participants also heard the findings of a specially prepared research report on the theme of the Meeting.
