6th Meeting of the COMCEC Poverty Working Group

The 6th Meeting of the COMCEC Poverty Alleviation Working Group was held on 10-11 September 2015 in Ankara, Turkey with the theme of “Post-2015 Development Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals: Improving Basic Services Delivery in the OIC Member Countries”.

The Meeting was attended by the representatives of 27 Member States namely, Afghanistan, Albania, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Brunei Darussalam, Cameroon, Djibouti, Egypt, Gabon, Gambia, Guinea, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Mauritania, Niger, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Turkey, Uganda and Uzbekistan. Representatives of COMCEC Coordination Office, SESRIC, Islamic Development Bank, Society for Community Strengthening and Promotion of Education, Balochistan (SCSPEB) and some other guests have also attended the Meeting.

The Representatives of the Member States have shared their experiences, achievements and challenges on delivery systems of basic services in their respective countries. On the second day of the Meeting the Joint Study reflecting the perspective of OIC on the implementation of the SDGs and Post-2015 Development Agenda has been presented. Furthermore, the Meeting deliberated on the preparations regarding the Exchange of Views Session of the 31st COMCEC Ministerial Meeting and come up with some policy recommendations to be submitted to the 31st COMCEC Session. The Meeting has considered the Studies “Improving Basic Services Delivery for the Poor in the OIC Member Countries” commissioned by the COMCEC Coordination Office and the “COMCEC Poverty Outlook 2015” prepared by the COMCEC Coordination Office.

6th Meeting of the COMCEC Tourism Working Group

The 6th Meeting of the COMCEC Tourism Working Group was held on September 3rd, 2015 in Ankara, Turkey with the theme of “Effective Tourism Marketing Strategies: ICT-Based Solutions for the OIC Member Countries.”

The Meeting was attended by the representatives of 12 Member States, which have notified their focal points for the Tourism Working Group namely, Azerbaijan, Cameroon, Egypt, Gambia, Guinea, Iran, Malaysia, Mali, Mozambique, Palestine, Tunisia and Turkey. Representatives of COMCEC Coordination Office, SESRIC, Islamic Center for Development of Trade (ICDT), World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), International Federation for Information Technologies and Travel & Tourism (IFITT), İstanbul Congress and Visitor Bureau and some other guests have also attended the Meeting.

The Representatives of the Member States have shared their experiences, achievements and challenges on ICT-based tourism marketing in their respective countries. The Meeting has considered the Studies “Effective Tourism Marketing Strategies: ICT-Based Solutions for the OIC Member Countries” commissioned by the COMCEC Coordination Office and the “COMCEC Tourism Outlook 2015” prepared by the COMCEC Coordination Office.

5th Meeting Of The COMCEC Trade Working Group

The Fifth Meeting of the COMCEC Trade Working Group was held on March 26th, 2015 in Crowne Plaza Hotel Ankara, Turkey with the theme of “Improving the Role of Eximbanks in the OIC Member States”.

The Meeting was attended by the representatives of 17 Member States, which have notified their focal points for the Trade Working Group namely, Bangladesh, Cameroon, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Kyrgyzstan, Morocco, Mozambique, Oman, Pakistan, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Sudan, Tunisia and Turkey. Representatives of COMCEC Coordination Office, Islamic Centre for Development of Trade (ICDT), Islamic Development Bank Group (IDB/ITFC and ICIEC) and Berne Union have also attended the Meeting.

The Meeting has considered the Studies namely “Improving the Role of Eximbanks in the OIC Member States” commissioned by the COMCEC Coordination Office (CCO) and the “COMCEC Trade Outlook 2014-Revised Edition” prepared by the CCO.

The Representatives of the Member States have shared their experiences, achievements and challenges in the Meeting. Moreover extensive deliberations were made on the ECAs/Eximbanks in the OIC Member States with a view to establish policy advises for both establishing well-functioning institutions and improving effectiveness of the present structures.

4th Meeting Of The COMCEC Financial Cooperation Working Group

The 4th Meeting of the COMCEC Financial Cooperation Working Group was held on March 19th, 2015 in Ankara, Turkey with the theme of “Improving Banking Supervision Mechanisms in the OIC Member Countries.”

The Meeting was attended by the representatives of 19 Member States, which have notified their focal points for the Financial Working Group namely Bangladesh, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Gambia, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Mozambique, Niger, Pakistan, Palestine, Qatar, Sudan, Togo, Tunisia, Turkey And Uganda. Representatives of COMCEC Coordination Office, Islamic Development Bank Group (IDB), SESRIC, Secretariat of the OIC Member States’ Stock Exchanges Forum, Secretariat of the COMCEC Capital Markets Regulators Forum , World Bank Global Islamic Finance Development Center Turkey have also attended the Meeting.

The Representatives of the Member States have deliberated on the supervisory framework of the Banking Sector in the Member Countries, the challenges faced and the policy options to address these challenges. The Meeting has considered the Study namely “Improving Banking Supervisory Mechanism in the OIC Member Countries”.

The 5th Meeting of the COMCEC Agriculture Working Group was held on March 5th, 2015 in Ankara, Turkey with the theme of “Improving Institutional Capacity: Strengthening Farmer Organizations in the OIC Member Countries.”

The Meeting was attended by the representatives of 11 Member States, which have notified their focal points for the Agriculture Working Group namely, Gambia, Indonesia, Jordan, Mauritania, Oman, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Suriname, Tunisia and Turkey. Representatives of COMCEC Coordination Office, SESRIC, Islamic Development Bank (IDB), General Committee for Agricultural Cooperation in the European Union (COGECA), PANKOBİRLİK, Jordan Exporters and Producers Association (JEPA) and Dalberg Global Development Advisors have also attended the Meeting.

The Representatives of the Member States have shared their experiences, achievements and challenges in strengthening farmer organizations in their respective countries. The Meeting was attended by the representatives of 16 Member States, which have notified their focal points for the Poverty Alleviation Working Group namely, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Benin, Cameroon, Egypt, Gambia, Iran, Jordan, Kuwait, Morocco, Niger, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, Turkey and Uganda. Representatives of COMCEC Coordination Office, Islamic Development Bank Group (IDB), Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC), World Bank Ankara Office and Bangladesh Rural Advancement Committee (BRAC), İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality Art and Vocational Training Courses (İSMEK) have also attended the Meeting.

The Representatives of the Member States have shared their experiences, best practices, challenges and policy implementations in increasing the efficiency of the activation programmes and policies in the COMCEC Member Countries. The Meeting has considered the Studies namely “Activation Policies for the Poor in the OIC Member States” and “COMCEC Poverty Outlook 2014 -Revised Edition” prepared by the COMCEC Coordination Office.

The 5th Meeting of the COMCEC Transport and Communications Working Group was held on February 12th, 2015 in Ankara, Turkey with the theme of “Evaluating the Ownership, Governance Structures and Performances of the Ports in the OIC Member States”.

The Meeting was attended by the representatives of 11 Member States, which have notified their focal points for the Transport and Communications Working Group namely, Afghanistan, Gambia, Indonesia, Iran, Jordan, Malaysia, Morocco, Mozambique, Saudi Arabia, Suriname and Turkey. Representatives of COMCEC Coordination Office, Islamic Development Bank (IDB), SESRIC, Organization of Islamic Shipowners’ Association (OISA), UNCTAD, Drewry Shipping Consultants, Hogia Transport Systems as well as some other guests have also attended the Meeting.

The Representatives of the Member States have shared their experiences, achievements and challenges in increasing port efficiency in their respective countries. The 5th Meeting of the COMCEC Tourism Working Group was held on February 5th , 2015 in Ankara, Turkey with the theme of “Travel Facilitation for Enhancing Mobility in the OIC Member Countries”

The Meeting was attended by the representatives of 10 Member States, which have notified their focal points for the Tourism Working Group namely, Gambia, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Mozambique, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Sudan and Turkey. Representatives of COMCEC Coordination Office, SESRIC, Islamic Center for Development of Trade (ICDT), World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), International Air Transport Association (IATA) as well as representatives from private sector and some other guests have also attended the Meeting.

The Representatives of the Member States have shared their experiences, achievements and challenges in travel facilitation in their respective countries. The Fourth Meeting of the COMCEC Trade Working Group was held on October 23rd, 2014 in Crowne Plaza Hotel Ankara, Turkey with the theme of “Preferential Trade Agreements (PTAs) and Trade Liberalisation Efforts in the OIC Member States with a Special Emphasis on the TPS-OIC”.

The Meeting was attended by the representatives of 18 Member States, which have notified their focal points for the Trade Working Group namely, Afghanistan, Algeria, Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Malaysia, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Tunisia, Turkey, Uganda and Yemen. Representatives of COMCEC Coordination Office, Islamic Centre for Development of Trade (ICDT), Islamic Development Bank Group (IDB/ITFC), Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC), United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), World Customs Organization (WCO) and Chamber of Commerce of Indonesia (KADIN) have also attended the Meeting.

The Representatives of the Member States have shared their experiences, achievements and challenges in the area of trade liberalization. Moreover extensive deliberations were made on the Trade Preferential System among the Member States of the OIC (TPS-OIC) with a view to establish policy advices for rationalization of the System.

The Meeting has considered the Studies namely “Preferential Trade Agreements (PTAs) and Trade Liberalisation Efforts in the OIC Member States with a Special Emphasis on the TPS-OIC” commissioned by the COMCEC Coordination Office (CCO) and the “COMCEC Trade Outlook 2014-Revised Edition” prepared by the CCO.

The 3rd Meeting of the COMCEC Financial Cooperation Working Group was held on October 16th, 2014 in Ankara, Turkey with the theme of “Risk Management in Islamic Financial Instruments.”

The Meeting was attended by the representatives of 18 Member States, which have notified their focal points for the Financial Cooperation Working Group namely, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Jordan, Kuwait, Niger, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Togo, Tunisia, Turkey and Uganda. Representatives of COMCEC Coordination Office, Islamic Development Bank Group (IDB), SESRIC, Secretariat of the OIC Member States’ Stock Exchanges Forum, Secretariat of the COMCEC Capital Markets Regulators Forum, Islamic Financial Services Board (IFSB), World Bank Global Islamic Finance Development Center and Participation Banks Association of Turkey have also attended the Meeting.

The Representatives of the Member States have deliberated on risk management in Islamic financial instruments, identified challenges faced by the Member Countries, and provided policy recommendations to enhance the cooperation in this field.
