On the sidelines of the 34th COMCEC Session, a number of panels was organized in order to raise awareness on the trade facilitation and to discuss the ways and means of addressing the challenges faced by the Member Countries. These special sessions were organized on 29 November 2018 with the following topics:

  • Harnessing the potential of trade facilitation for regional integration
  • Challenges in customs modernization and possible solutions
  • Private sector involvement in trade facilitation
  • Facilitating trade in the digital era: challenges and opportunities for increasing cross-border e-commerce
  • Forum on Trade Facilitation

The main objective of these events was to complement the discussions of the Exchange of Views Session with different aspects from the other stakeholders of trade facilitation. The speakers of the panels were dignitaries from the Member States, representatives of International and OIC Institutions, civil society and private sector organizations, think-tanks and the academia. All delegations of the OIC Member States participating the 34th COMCEC Ministerial Session, as well as representatives of civil society, media, academia and private sector attended these events.

The 12th Meeting of the COMCEC Trade Working Group was held on November 6th, 2018 in Ankara, Turkey with the theme of “Improving Authorized Economic Operator Programs in the OIC Member Countries”.

The Meeting was attended by the representatives of 19 Member States. Moreover, representatives of COMCEC Coordination Office, ICDT, ITFC, WCO, UNESCAP, APEC and International Association of AEO Customs and Logistics have also attended the Meeting.

The Representatives of the Member States have shared their experiences, achievements and challenges in developing authorized economic operator programs in their respective countries. The Meeting has considered the Study “Authorized Economic Operator Programs in the Islamic Countries: Enhancing Customs-Traders Partnership” commissioned by the COMCEC Coordination Office and the “COMCEC Trade Outlook 2018” prepared by the COMCEC Coordination Office.

The preliminary project proposals submitted under the 6th Project Call of the COMCEC Project Funding has been evaluated by independent assessors and the COMCEC Coordination Office.

The 11th Meeting of the COMCEC Financial Cooperation Working Group was held on October 25th, 2018 in Ankara, Turkey with the theme of “Islamic Fund Management”.

The Meeting was attended by the representatives of 19 Member States, which have notified their focal points for the Financial Cooperation Working Group. Representatives of COMCEC Coordination Office, SESRIC, Secretariat of OIC Member States’ Stock Exchanges Forum, Secretariat of the COMCEC Capital Markets Regulators Forum, Al Meezan Investment Management Limited and Katılım Emeklilik have also attended the Meeting.

The Representatives of the Member States have shared their experiences, achievements and challenges on Islamic Fund Management in their respective countries. The Meeting has considered the Study “Islamic Fund Management” commissioned by the COMCEC Coordination Office.
