The 15th Meeting of the COMCEC Tourism Working Group was held on September 24th-25th, 2020 in a virtual-only format, with the theme of “Developing Medical Tourism in the OIC Member Countries”.

The Meeting was attended by the representatives of 18 Member States. Representatives of COMCEC Coordination Office, UNWTO, WTTC, ICDT, ICCIA and SMIIC have also attended the Meeting.

The Representatives of the Member States have shared their experiences, achievements and challenges regarding medical tourism in their respective countries. Furthermore, in line with the relevant resolution of the 35th Ministerial Session of the COMCEC, the 15th Meeting of the TWG has also served as the preparatory platform for the Ministerial Exchange of Views Session of the 36th COMCEC Session to be held on November 25th, 2020 with the theme of “Promoting Entrepreneurship for Tourism Industry Competitiveness.” The participants have deliberated on the aforementioned theme and developed a set of policy recommendations to be submitted to the Ministers for their kind consideration during the Ministerial Exchange of Views Session.

The Meeting has mainly considered the Studies “Developing Medical Tourism in the OIC Member Countries” and “Tourism Entrepreneurship in the OIC Countries” commissioned by the COMCEC Coordination Office.

The 15th Meeting of the COMCEC Trade Working Group was held on September 22nd, 2020 in Ankara, Turkey with the theme of “Guidelines for Establishing Effective National Trade Facilitation Bodies in the OIC Countries”.

The representatives of 18 OIC Member States attended the Meeting. Representatives of WTO, SESRIC, ICDT, ITFC, ICIEC and COMCEC Coordination Office have also attended the Meeting.

The Representatives of the Member States have shared their experiences, achievements and challenges on national trade facilitation bodies in their respective countries. During the Meeting, the participants mainly considered the “COMCEC Handbook for High Performing National Trade Facilitation Bodies”.

The 15th Meeting of COMCEC Agriculture Working Group was held on September 17th, 2020 in a virtual-only format, with the theme of “Good Governance for Ensuring Food Security and Nutrition in the OIC Member Countries.”

The meeting was attended by the representatives of 14 Member States. The meeting was further attended by the representatives of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), IsDB Group, IOFS, SESRIC, SMIIC and COMCEC Coordination Office.

The 14th Meeting of the COMCEC Financial Cooperation Working Group was held on September 15th, 2020, in a virtual-only format with the theme of “Improving Shariah Governance Framework in Islamic Finance”.

The representatives of 21 Member States, which have notified their focal points for the Financial Cooperation Working Group, attended the Meeting. The meeting was further attended by the representatives of the SESRIC, SMIIC, IsDB, CIBAFI, AAOIFI, OIC Exchanges Forum, COMCEC Capital Markets Regulators Forum, OIC-COMCEC Central Banks Forum, Participation Banks Association of Turkey (TKBB) and COMCEC Coordination Office.

The Representatives of the Member States have shared their experiences, achievements and challenges on improving shariah governance framework in Islamic finance in their respective countries. The Meeting has considered the Study “Improving the Shariah Governance Framework in Islamic Finance” commissioned by the COMCEC Coordination Office.

The CCO is calling for project proposals to be financed in selected sectoral themes in 2021. Applications will be closed on September 30th, 2020.

The COMCEC COVID-19 Tourism Consultative Meeting was held on July 9th, 2020, in a virtual-only format, with the theme of “The Impacts of COVID-19 on Tourism in the OIC Member Countries and The Way Forward”.

The meeting was attended by 31 representatives from 21 Member States. The meeting was also attended by the representatives of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), SESRIC and COMCEC Coordination Office.

The COMCEC Tourism Working Group, in its ad-hoc consultative meeting on the COVID-19 pandemic, discussed the current and potential future impacts of the pandemic on tourism policies, exchanged expertise and good practices among the member countries, and deliberated on the cooperation opportunities based on the needs and experiences of the member countries.

The 15th Meeting of COMCEC Transport and Communications Working Group was held on July 7th, 2020, in virtual-only format, with the theme of “Pricing of Transport Infrastructure in the OIC Member Countries”.

36 representatives from 22 Member States attended the meeting. Furthermore, the representatives of the OECD-ITF, IDB Group, SESRIC and COMCEC Coordination Office attended the meeting.

The representatives of the Member States have shared their experiences, achievements and challenges regarding pricing of transport infrastructure in their respective countries. Furthermore, they have deliberated the policy issues that might be implemented to enhance the capacity of member countries to effectively manage the current practices related to pricing of transport infrastructure. The meeting has mainly considered the report titled “Pricing of Transport Infrastructure in the OIC Member States” conducted by the COMCEC Coordination Office.

Several online training sessions regarding COMCEC Project Funding have been held on a weekly basis between June 10th and July 8th. Sessions informed project staff on responsible actors, implementation, monitoring, visibility rules as well as project management information system.
